Court Books E, F and G cover some of the most turbulent years in the history of the Stationers’ Company, as explained in Alison Shell’s historical and analytical introduction to this volume. The Index includes the names of all printers, booksellers, publishers, bookbinders, and others who figure in the court minutes. It also lists the titles of the books mentioned in the minutes as well as those domestic and political events that were discussed in court, thereby giving an insight into the ways the Company, the City and the London  booktrade worked. The present volume is the latest in a succession of indexes to the Court Books starting in 1576; it will be an indispensable tool, both for those using the Chadwyck-Healey microfilm of the Stationers’ Company Archive and for those  working on the original volumes at Stationers’ Hall.
