Bibliographical Society Petition Key in Preventing Senate House Sale: A Statement from the President

Friday, September 06, 2013

The Bibliographical Society is delighted that the University of London has announced that it is abandoning the proposed sale of four of its Shakespeare Folios. I would like to thank everyone involved in the campaign to raise awareness of the sale, and all those who signed the online petition.

Society Opposes Proposed Sale of University of London Shakespeare Folios

Senate House Library, University of London, is proposing to sell copies of the Library’s first four Shakespeare folios. These folios form a critical part of the collection left to the University of London by Sir Louis Sterling in 1956, on condition that they remain permanently in the University Library.

The Bibliographical Society is firmly against the proposed sale.
