Petition to Stop Cuts to Belgian Cultural Institutions

Belgium’s Federal Scientific Institutions are faced with severe budget cuts. These institutions, including such important guardians of Belgium’s heritage as the Royal Library, the State Archives, the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, the Royal Museums of Art and History and the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage, have been suffering from financial cutbacks for years. The proposed austerity under the new government will make it even more difficult to adequately fulfill their mission and to properly administer the collections that have been entrusted to them by our society.

New to the Society Archives

Bibliographical Society Council Nominations

According to the normal rules of rotation, four Council members are due to step down at the Annual General Meeting on 21 October 2014. Also at the AGM Christine Ferdinand will step down as President and will be succeeded by Henry Woudhuysen. Nominations for Council and a Vice-President will be considered at the 9 September Council meeting and should be submitted to the Hon.

Death of Anthony Hobson

It is with great regret that the Society announces the death of Dr Anthony Hobson. Dr Hobson (born 1921) was a former President of the Society (1977-1979) and was awarded the Society's Gold Medal in 1992. He passed away peacefully at home on Saturday 12 July.

Chapbooks Working Group

The Working Group held a one-day Workshop at Senate House, London, on 26 February 2014 to prepare a draft Chapbooks Action Plan, for wider discussion.

Fellowship & Bursary Awards Announced

The list of fellowships and bursaries awards has now been posted on the Society's website. Projects awarded funding for 2013-2014 range from work on women's print history to an exploration of authorial colophons in late medieval manuscripts.
