Major Grants awarded 2009-10

The Council of the Society agreed on 16 February 2010 to make the following awards:

Two Katharine F. Pantzer Jr Research Fellowships:

  • £3,200 to Professor Nile Green (‘The role of the iron handpress in the spread of Persian and other forms of Arabic-script printing, c.1800-1830’)
  • £3,880 to Dr R. Carter Hailey (‘Papers stocks of early modern professional dramatic manuscripts and printed books’).

Major Grants

  • £1,424 (the Fredson Bowers award, funded by this Society and the Bibliographical Society of America) to Dr Troy Bassett (‘Serialization of three-volume novels’)
  • £1,270 to Dr Victoria Gardner (‘James Montgomery and the newspaper trade, 1794-1825’)
  • £1,700 (the Antiquarian Booksellers Association award) to Dr Carrie Griffin & Dr Mary O’Connell (‘Charles Clark: reading, printing, antiquarianism’)
  • £2,000 (the Barry Bloomfield award) to Mr Stephen Lubell (‘Sixteenth-century Hebrew Type: the Le Bé specimens in the Bibliothèque Nationale’)
  • £480 (the Falconer Madan award) to Dr Veronica O’Mara (‘Critical edition of Thos. Wimbledon’s Paul’s Cross Sermon, c.1387’)
  • £2,000 to Dr Sydney Shep (‘Reading in the Boer War’)
